Firefighters Credit Union On-line Privacy and Security
Firefighters Credit Union is committed to member online privacy and security. Firefighters Credit Union strives to keep members informed about how we protect member online activity at www.fire-cu.org. The following online practices demonstrate our commitment to maintain member online privacy and security.
Protecting member security online – Firefighters Credit Union employs three levels of security for members conducting online transactions. The web site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. The web site uses 128 bit key digital certificates through Verisign Corporation to ensure secure transfer of information data to and from our internet web server(s).
E-Mail security – Regular Internet e-mail is not secure. Therefore, members are encouraged to use e-mail only to provide information that is not sensitive and non-confidential. Firefighters Credit Union requests that you do not provide personal or account information through e-mail. You may contact us by phone, mail or by visiting the credit union.
Linking to other sites – Firefighters Credit Union provides links to other companies’ sites to bring member products and services. Firefighters Credit Union is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such web sites.
Online surveys and sweepstakes – Firefighters Credit Union may at times conduct online surveys to help us better serve our members. Firefighters Credit Union may also offer online sweepstakes and/or promotions. The information a member provides on surveys, sweepstakes and other promotions may be used for internal marketing purposes. Based on the information a member provides us, Firefighters Credit Union may also inform you of accounts and services available. As always, if you have asked us not to contact you with marketing offers, your request will be honored. You are not required to complete online surveys, sweepstakes or promotions.
Online application forms – Firefighters Credit Union uses online application forms for members to request information, products and services. Firefighters Credit Union will collect visitor’s unique identifiers (like their social security number), financial information (like their account or credit card numbers), and demographic information (like their zip code, age, or income level). Financial information that is collected is used to check the user’s identity. Demographic and profile data is also collected and used to help identify our current members and new members. All data collected from our web site is kept confidential and is not sold, distributed, or shared with any outside advertisers.
Looking out for children – Firefighters Credit Union will not knowingly market to or solicit information from children under 13 without parental consent. Firefighters Credit Union recognizes that protecting children’s identities and privacy online is important and that the responsibility to do so rests with both the online industry and parents.
Taking individual responsibility for protecting personal information – Each member plays an important role in safeguarding any personal information they share online.
While Firefighters Credit Union works to protect a member’s privacy, the member has certain responsibilities to help safeguard information. Firefighters Credit Union would suggest members observe the following rules:
1. Do not share your ID or password with anyone.
2. Change your password regularly.
3. Remember to sign off once you have submitted an application for a product
or service online, or completed a secure online session.
4. Only provide your Access ID when the browser indicated an encrypted connection,
such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL), directly to the Firefighters Credit Union web site or to another
